Ever wanted to make your own DIY scratch off cards? Wouldn't it be fun to send a greeting card full of suspense and anticipation, just like a lottery ticket? I have wanted to do this for years!
Make It Easy With Stickers
While there are a few great DIY scratch off tutorials out there, notably this one from The Dainty Squid and another from Wonder Forest, making your own cards from scratch (ha ha) requires specific materials like acrylic paint and special tape. It's a fun project if you're looking for a project. But what about something for folks that aren't quite so crafty? When I started talking with Chronicle Books about designing customizable scratch off greeting cards, we decided right away that they should be astonishingly easy to use.
Lucky You! is the result and features 16 greeting cards for various occasions, plenty of scratch off stickers, and 16 fun mailing envelopes. The full set is now available via the online shop or ask for it at your local book store or stationery shop.
Here's a quick video that shows what's in the box:
What Can You Do With Lucky You!?
So many fun creative things! First of all, there are eight different greeting card designs in Lucky You! and you get two of each design per set. Here's a quick look at the unique designs: birthdays, thank yous, congratulations, a "good for" ticket, "I'm Sweet On You," and "You're a Champion."

Lucky You! includes 16 greeting cards per set -- 2 each of 8 different designs.
Here are a bunch of creative examples of how to use these special DIY scratch off cards:
Golden Ticket. This ticket is good for...
Give it as a birthday present or use it to spice up a new romance by filling in the blanks with whatever you want! Maybe even slip it under the wrapper of your sweetie's favorite chocolate bar.
You Went Above & Beyond. Thanks for...
Give this one to someone who helped you move, wrote you a great recommendation letter, helped out at your wedding, or brought you food when you were sick or just had a baby.
I'm Sweet On You. I love you because...
This card is great for Valentine's Day or any sort of romantic anniversary. Or give it to your sweetheart on a random Tuesday and see what happens.
Flowers for You! Thanks a bunch for...
All moms love flowers so give this one on Mother's Day. Or send it off to a good friend who hosted you in his or her home. Maybe you had an awesome teacher this year who deserves a quick note of thanks? Did your BFF come through for you at your wedding?
You're A Champion!
This card can go lots of different directions - Mother's Day, Father's Day, perhaps your child was extra brave at the doctor's office this morning. Or maybe a friend just hosted a particularly memorable dinner party that you really enjoyed? Send this one anytime you want to say, "I like you. You're awesome."
Up, Up, and Away. Congratulations! Here's wishing you...
How many people receive a card in the mail when they've just started a new job? Almost none, I bet. And yet it's one of those moments when most of us would really benefit from knowing a good friend is rooting for us. So send it! This one is also great for graduations, engagements, or to congratulate an extra special family member or friend on their new baby.
Birthday Blowout. Happy Birthday! Here are three wishes...
With the custom scratch off birthday cards, what you write makes all the difference. Make it personal, witty, or just plain sincere.
Here's To You. Happy Birthday! Three cheers...
Ditto.
Want to write a longer message?
That's what the backside of the card is for! Each back has a pretty border and lots of blank space for a longer note, heartfelt missive, or even a brief tome.
